We call on the City of Βι¶ΉΣ³» to install and maintain a modern, inclusive outdoor gym in The Meadows, next to the community garden, replacing the existing outdated chin up bar and cycle machine. Interest in calisthenics and outdoor bodyweight training has grown significantly, with more residents seeking safe, free spaces to exercise in fresh air. A dedicated outdoor gym in the park would meet this demand and provide a welcoming environment for people of all ages and fitness levels.
We ask the Council to commission the supply, delivery and installation of a small outdoor fitness station designed for diverse users, using durable, weather resistant equipment that meets current safety standards. The layout should be agreed in consultation with local park users and community groups, ensuring clear access, appropriate spacing and, where needed, simple ground or surfacing improvements.
We also request a long term maintenance and inspection plan, including regular safety checks, repairs, cleaning, so the facility remains in good condition.
This investment will support physical and mental wellbeing, encourage regular outdoor activity, and foster a mixed age community around shared fitness goals. By providing a well designed, properly maintained outdoor gym in this high footfall location, the Council will create a lasting resource that benefits residents across Edinburgh and aligns with its commitments to public health, active lifestyles and high quality green spaces.
