The St Mark鈥檚 Path Bridge (Powderhall Bailey Bridge) across the Water of Leith is a vital connection between North and Central Edinburgh, especially to the North Edinburgh Path Network.
It is needed by many people daily, whereas the alternative routes are not safely accessible to all. In particular, families cross the bridge to Broughton Primary School and pupils use it to get to the park. A steep, half mile diversion, each way is a long way for small children.
This will be worse in winter, as the nearest alternative bridge, at Beaverhall, goes to an unlit part of St Mark鈥檚 Park. Mending or replacing the bridge is urgent.
We ask that the council does everything it can to investigate and put in place measures to temporarily mend or brace the bridge or hire a replacement, while a longer term solution is sorted out.
