We are responsible for maintaining public roads in Edinburgh. This is known as the adopted road network and includes both carriageways and footpaths. This responsibility extends to drainage of the road network so that it is safe for passage.
We are not responsible for ensuring the road surface is impermeable or for ground water beneath the road surface. It is the responsibility of private property owners to ensure their property is watertight, particularly when there are cellars present, or other habitable space below ground.
