Princes Street updates

Princes Street closure

A photo of a crowded pavement on Princes Street with people spilling on to the road and lots of traffic passing.Princes Street is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future following a fire at the former Debenhams building in the early hours of 9 July.

Work is continuing to make the building safe while ensuring the historic features of the building are preserved. While timescales are not yet confirmed, these works are expected to take several weeks to complete.

Princes Street is closed between Frederick Street and South Charlotte Street to all vehicles and pedestrians, with diversions in place.

Buses are currently rerouted along George Street and Queen Street, with trams only operating to and from the airport and Shandwick Place. Trams are unable to travel between Princes Street, Leith and Newhaven.

We understand that this is an incredibly busy time for the city and the disruption is frustrating but we must prioritise public safety while the building is made safe and investigations are ongoing. Please plan ahead for journeys as delays are expected.
