Linking and restoring the fragmented heritage of Granton Waterfront, Edinburgh

We are delivering the heritage project "Linking and restoring the fragmented heritage of Granton Waterfront, Edinburgh".

The project is being delivered with support from and the  via the . It forms part of the wider regeneration of .

Project aims

The aims of the project are to 

  • repair and refresh four historic buildings and structures in Granton Waterfront - , / , the platforms of , and
  • deliver other improvements to the built heritage of Granton Waterfront
  • improve traditional construction skills in Edinburgh
  • engage the community with heritage via a programme of activities.

Development phase

We completed the development phase of the project in 2024. This included working with partners to produce the following documents 

Delivery phase

In 2025, we were granted permission to proceed to the delivery phase of the project. The delivery phase will last until December 2029. Activities completed to date include

  • Completing designs for the refurbishment of Granton Lighthouse. The designs have been prepared by a design team led by . Applications for and were made in December 2025.
  • Securing match funding for the refurbishment of Granton Lighthouse. In March 2026, the Council secured an additional £2.28 million from the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF) towards the refurbishment.  
  • Refurbishing Granton Station platforms. In March 2026, completed a comprehensive refurbishment of both platforms, replacing the existing asphalt and concrete surfaces with shrubs.
