On Monday 13 April we started work to significantly improve the safety of Davidson’s Mains roundabout for pedestrians, particularly those with mobility issues, and cyclists.
We expect work to take around nine weeks, finishing in the middle of June, but are working to see if there are ways we can reduce the length of the disruption.
Unfortunately, to carry out the works safely, we had to fully close the roundabout to all vehicles, including buses, meaning no access for vehicles through the roundabout from Cramond Road South, Main Street or Quality Street.
We are sorry for the disruption this has caused and have been working with Lothian Buses to put alternative plans in place for public transport.
Changes to bus services and free shuttle bus for Cramond residents
Closing the roundabout affects Lothian Buses services 21 and 47 for the duration of the project. You can find out more information on the Lothian Buses website www.lothianbuses.com
Please note that there is no change to the route of the service 32 bus.
We appreciate that in the case of the service 47, disruption to Cramond residents is considerable. With Lothian Buses, we have organised a free bus shuttle service starting from Wednesday 15 April. We are sorry that we weren’t able to get this in place for the start of the work and have made every effort to make sure it was available for the schools returning after Easter.
This will operate between Cramond and Cammo between 7am and 7pm every 30 minutes Monday to Sunday.
It will run via a one-way loop along Gamekeeper’s Road, Cramond Road North, Whitehouse Road, Barnton and on to Cammo where residents can connect with services 47/X47.
Free out of hours taxi support
If you need public transport outside of the shuttle bus running times of 7am to 7pm, we do have a taxi service that can link from your home or nearest bus stop to the nearest operating 47 bus stop, which is at Cammo, and from the bus stop to your home on your return journey.
This free service will be available out-of-hours when the 47/47B would normally serve Cramond:
- Mondays to Fridays: 5.15am – 7.30am and 7pm - 12.20am
-
Saturdays: 6.15 am to 7am and 7pm – 12.20am
-
Sundays: 7pm – 12.20am (the first bus is at 7am on Sundays)
This service is also available to residents in the Barnton Gardens/Cramond Road South area who may need support to get to the operational bus stop at Cammo.
To use this service, contact:
Central Taxis direct on 0131 229 2468. You will be asked for the following details:
- Account number: CEC171
-
Pin number, which is: TCD8
-

-
The journey details
Working in stages
Work will be done in two stages starting on Monday 13 April for approximately eight weeks.
The contractor will work Monday to Friday, typically between 8am and 5pm.
Phase 1
Roundabout – junction of Cramond Road South, Main Street and Quality Street. Estimated 6 weeks
Phase 2
Cramond Road South – from Barnton Avenue to roundabout. Estimated 2 weeks
Access to businesses and homes
Pedestrians will be able to get to businesses, shops and homes at all times. Emergency vehicles will also have access at all times.
We will make every effort to accommodate you if, for example, you need your car because you have a disability, for larger deliveries or access for removal vehicles if you’re moving house.
Cyclists will need to dismount next to work areas where access is only available along the pavements.
Road closures and parking
Street notices and information boards will tell you about changes to parking or access. Please do not park within any closed or coned off areas as we will remove vehicles.
If your vehicle is uplifted and relocated elsewhere, please follow the information on the site notices on how to recover your vehicle. Alternatively, you can call NSL on 0131 555 1742 or Police Scotland on 101.
Waste collections
Waste collections will run as normal. If we do need to make any changes to your service, our contractor will let you know.
