  • transport
  • the child did not want to attend

A number of spaces were declined at short notice preventing adequate time to re-allocate.

Feedback from families

A small number of parents raised concerns with providers about the service received during summer 2026. We were notified about one referral made to social work direct after a participant displayed behaviours of concern.

Both parents, carers and activity providers told us that it can be difficult to provide suitable activities for younger children and older teenagers in the same service. Some activity providers are already introducing a more participant-led focus for older participants. Officers will continue to work with providers to make sure activities better reflect the needs of the young people attending.

Changes for 2026 / 27

Officers have introduced several measures in a bid to reduce the number of empty spaces in the 2026-27 provision. These include

  • seeking confirmation of acceptance from parents / carers as each full year allocation letters are sent out
  • bringing forward payment deadlines to sooner identify spaces available for re-allocation
  • increasing the number of scheduled payment reminders circulated
  • allowing a grace period for late payments after each deadline.

Officers will be as sensitive as possible however we will need to take a more proactive approach to re-allocating unconfirmed spaces after payment deadlines have passed.
