Craft Apprentice pay rates

Craft Apprentice salaries are calculated as a percentage of the minimum salary scale point (SCP) of the main grade role. 

The percentage payment applied increases with each year of apprenticeship, as specified in the national Craft handbook:

  • Apprenticeship year 1: 50% of main grade pay
  • Apprenticeship year 2: 70% of main grade pay
  • Apprenticeship year 3: 80% of main grade pay
  • Apprenticeship year 4: 85% of main grade pay

The salaries quoted are full-time equivalent salaries.

The Scottish Local Government Living Wage (SLGLW) is £13.52 for the period 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Craft Apprentice SCPs that fall below the SLGLW are topped up to an hourly rate of £13.52.
