Friends of Greenspace groups are volunteers. They work with us and help enhance and protect parks, cemeteries, woodlands, and green spaces across Edinburgh.
Joining or starting a Friends of Greenspace group is a fun way to help shape your neighbourhood. You help your community and make your area a nicer place to live. These groups give volunteers a chance to be a bigger part in the care and development of their local greenspaces, work with local councils and groups to keep these areas clean and easy to visit, as well as encourage people to get involved in looking after nature around them.
The groups volunteer their time and energy in activities such as
- tree planting
- gardening
- fixing up parks
- improving access
- planting meadows with wildflowers
- creating homes for birds and bats
- fundraising
- hosting community events
- landscaping work alongside our staff
- leading talks and walks
- contribute to the management of the park.
Every group is different. Some focus on cleaning and protecting nature, while others might raise money or plan events.
By working together, Friends of Greenspaces groups and the Council can make parks more fun, safe, and better for nature and biodiversity.
