Hosting and promoting events

Planning events is a fantastic way to engage your community with your green space. You can organise activities such as

  • clean-ups and walking groups
  • nest box building
  • picnics.

Before you host an event

  • apply to the Council for permission
  • do your safety checks
  • ensure all health and safety measures are in place
  • tell your Council officer about the event, safety procedures and any potential risks.

How to promote your event

Getting the word out about your events and projects helps your group to thrive. When you share your plans, more people will notice, understand your mission, and want to join in.

Posters and flyers

Create eye-catching posters for

  • park notice boards
  • schools
  • local shops, pubs and libraries
  • community centres

Distribute smaller flyers or leaflets to hand out or leave on shop counters.

Newsletters

Set up a secure database of members' email addresses. This lets you share information quickly. Ensure you are GDPR compliant.

Use well-designed newsletters to keep members and the community updated with

  • news
  • upcoming activities
  • sign-ups for new memberships

Social media

Use platforms like Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok to share updates, connect with the community and promote your events. Each platform has different audiences, so choose the right one for your group.

Ask other friends groups to share information on their social channels or website.
