How to plan your bus, tram, train or cycling journey
It’s summer and the city is very busy, particularly during the festivals.
It’s important that you plan ahead and give yourself more time for your journey.
If you want to travel by bus, you may want to consider getting off a couple of stops earlier to avoid the busy city centre.
Buses
Edinburgh has a fantastic public transport network into and around the city and public transport operators have great tools to help you plan your journey.

Trams
Trams run between Edinburgh Airport and Newhaven with stops at various locations including Murrayfield, Princes Street and Leith.

Trains
You can travel between our main rail stations, Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket, which are ideally located for the city centre and Murrayfield Stadium.
You can also link to Musselburgh and North Berwick from Waverley Station.
There are great bus links close to both stations to get to other parts of the city.
Cycling
The city's bike hire scheme is affordable and easy to use.
Walking
Edinburgh is very walkable. You can easily get around the city centre, but note that it is a bit hilly in places!
Car
We have park and ride sites around the city and we advise you to use these and avoid driving into the city centre, unless you absolutely need to travel by car.
