Changes to parking and loading
Parking restrictions from 12 October 2026
Parking will not be permitted in bus lanes between 7am and 7pm, seven days a week.
There are already existing parking restrictions in place along most of the route. We are mainly changing the times that these restrictions apply to align with the new bus lane hours.
New parking restrictions are also being introduced in a small number of locations where they are needed to support the operation of the bus lanes.
We will not change parking restrictions within lay-bys including
- resident permit bays
- pay-and-display bays
- free parking bays
Loading restrictions from 12 October 2026
Loading and unloading of vehicles will still be permitted in bus lanes during their new operating hours, except at the busiest times.
On-street signs and road markings will tell you where and at what times loading and unloading will be permitted.
On weekdays, the busiest times for buses are between 7am and 10am and 4pm and 7pm. During these times, loading and unloading will not be permitted anywhere along the route, except within lay-bys.
At weekends, loading and unloading will continue to be permitted all day. The only exception is between the Easter Road and the Willowbrae Gardens junctions, where loading and unloading will not be permitted between 11am and 2pm. Bus delays are typically greatest on this section of the route.

Crossing bus lanes to reach loading locations
At times when loading and unloading is permitted, you may need to briefly cross or enter a bus lane to access a kerbside location where loading is allowed.
In these situations, drivers should only enter the bus lane for the distance necessary to access the loading location and should leave the bus lane as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.
Parking for Blue Badge holders
Changes to loading restrictions on some sections of the corridor will affect the times when Blue Badge holders can park.
On single yellow lines and/or single kerb blip markingsn (dashes), Blue Badge holders can park
- weekdays: before 7am, between 10am and 4pm, and after 7pm.
- weekends: all day along most of the route. The only exception is between Easter Road and Willowbrae Gardens, where loading restrictions mean Blue Badge holders will not be able to park between 11am and 2pm.
Parking arrangements within lay-bys that are not part of the bus lane will not change. These locations will continue to be available for Blue Badge holders under the existing parking arrangements.
We will monitor the impact of these changes during the trial, including through parking surveys and stakeholder feedback. This will help inform any decision on whether the measures should be retained, amended or removed
