Bus lane trial

How we will monitor the trial

We will use a statutory power called an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO).

This means we can introduce temporary changes over 18 months to test them and look at how they’re affecting bus passengers, local residents and businesses.

In the first six months of the trial, you will be able to submit your views. These views will help inform future decisions on whether the trial should be made permanent, amended or removed.

We will also closely monitor the trial and can make changes if we think it will make the scheme work better.

Data to be collected during the trial includes:

  • bus journey times
  • traffic surveys
  • parking and loading surveys
  • local businesses surveys

Councillors will scrutinise the performance of the trial and consider all feedback received to decide whether or not we make the new times permanent.
